Officials in the island state are striving to determine a pink slime that has surfaced on a secluded beach, with some scientists anxious it could be an phytoplankton proliferation.

Widespread Occurrence On Shore

The rosy-colored ooze was found on a stretch of Randalls Bay about 60km south of the city. A comparable ooze has also been recorded on sections of another local beach and a separate bay.

Specimens Collected for Testing

Examples have been gathered and sent to the environmental agency for examination. A spokesperson remarked that "phytoplankton proliferations are a normal phenomenon in response to variations in nutrients, heat, precipitation or sunlight".
