Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
